Dallas, Texas, United States TransMedics Group, Inc Full time
OCS Specialist - Organ Transplantation

JOB SUMMARY

The OCS Specialist plays a crucial role in optimizing and facilitating the utilization of the Organ Care System (OCS) for organ procurement and transportation before, during, and after transplantation procedures.

Team members based in regions with active and high-volume cases will primarily focus on supporting local cases but may also be assigned to assist in other regions as necessary.

For team members in regions not yet integrated into the National OCS Program, support will be provided to cases in other areas across the country until their region develops a substantial case volume.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • After completing 4-6 weeks of comprehensive hands-on training and OCS certification across all three organ types at TransMedics' training facility, apply OCS expertise (with remote support) during the processes of organ retrieval, preservation, transportation, and evaluation in accordance with TransMedics' established protocols and guidelines.
  • Generally available on-call 24/7 for approximately 50% of the month, including weekends; this role involves travel to clinical sites to provide OCS support as outlined above; scheduled time off may be arranged with prior notice in coordination with management.
  • In addition to traveling to donor sites and transplant centers (within and outside the home region), occasional travel for ongoing training across all organ types and other necessary activities will be required.
  • Maintain regular communication with TransMedics Product Directors and Program Managers to provide real-time updates while supporting ongoing OCS cases. Additionally, consistently relay OCS utilization activities and feedback from users.
  • Deliver customer support by:
  • Managing OCS product inventory.
  • Facilitating refresher training and ongoing guidance for clinical users.
  • Collaborating with non-clinical teams at sites utilizing the OCS to clarify the operational model and requirements for organ retrieval, transportation, and assessment of donor organs.
  • Prepare and present internal case reviews following the application of OCS, with support and review from senior colleagues.
  • When not engaged in case coverage, assist management, Product Directors, and Program Managers with various assignments and tasks, either remotely or as assigned, which may include:
  • Participation in research and development activities in a laboratory setting under the guidance of a Product Director or Program Manager.
  • Attendance at medical and scientific conferences and meetings (both domestically and internationally).
  • Execution of other tasks and responsibilities as required by TransMedics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Medical Doctor, or in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Regardless of professional background, candidates must demonstrate the following attributes:
  • High flexibility and willingness to support various sites as needed across regions.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational capabilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities; capable of working collaboratively and establishing rapport with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.
  • Enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Full vaccination (and booster, when eligible) against COVID-19 is required. The Company provides legally mandated accommodations to this requirement where feasible without imposing an undue burden on the Company. However, given that vaccination is often a prerequisite for working at hospitals and being on-site is essential for the OCS Specialist role, there are limitations on the ability to provide accommodations that do not create an undue burden on the Company.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

  • MD, MS, or BS in Nursing, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on clinical experience.
