Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician (OT) plays a vital role in the success of our team at Riverside Health System. As a clinical support specialist, you will work under the supervision of the Office Manager, Physicians, and/or Clinical Coordinator/Supervisor to provide exceptional patient care. Your primary responsibilities will include greeting patients, reviewing and documenting complaints, and performing pertinent clinical measures such as visual acuities, slit lamp exams, and diagnostic tests. You will also facilitate patient education through brochures and videos, prepare prescription refills for physician review, and assist with referral and dictation letters. Additionally, you will participate in cost containment and waste reduction efforts by minimizing supply use and identifying cost-saving solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Performs and records pertinent clinical measures to include Visual Acuities, Refractometry, Application Tonometry, Keratometry, Slit Lamp Exams, Visual Fields, and OCT.
Teaches Insert and Removal Procedures for Contact Lens Patients.
Accompanies the physician to surgery and prepares surgery charts and post-operative bags.
Participates in new employee on-boarding to enhance retention and reduce turnover of staff.
Facilitates patient education through videos and brochures.
Prepares prescription refills for physician review.
Reviews and answers patient voicemails and returns calls to patients and pharmacies in a timely manner.
Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with patients and their families or caregivers.
Monitors/supports/tracks departmental productivity to meet the needs of the department.
Effectively utilizes technology to increase efficiency.
Maintains a clean and safe work area.
Maintains a working knowledge of facility, OSHA, and HIPPA regulations.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
Program Graduate, Optical Tech (Preferred)
1 year Ophthalmology / Optometry clinical experience (Preferred)
