Job Title: General Manager

Classification: Salaried, non OT-exempt

Reports to: VP of Operations

Compensation: $70k annually + incentive bonus

The General Manager is responsible for the overall success of the cafe. This includes managing the profit and loss statement, building effective schedules, and investing in the cafe's community. The GM recruits and motivates high-performing teams by leading with empathy and regularly pulling feedback, while ensuring continued learning and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management:
    • Recruit and motivate an excellent team
    • Plan trainings and development for the team
    • Implement regular employee check-ins to provide and pull feedback
    • Perform disciplinary actions when necessary
    • Coach and guide the Assistant General Manager
  • Sales and Revenue:
    • Meet or exceed sales goals
    • Community outreach/events/ambassadorship
    • Review and action on the profit and loss statement
  • Labor and COGS:
    • Manage labor and COGS within budget
    • Write effective schedules and approve timesheets
    • Manage pars and end of period inventory
    • Strategically cover call-outs
    • Coach and correct ordering
  • Cafe Environment:
    • Foster a safe and clean cafe environment for guests and employees
    • Own preventative maintenance for the cafe
    • Ensure a safe and respectful working environment for all employees and guests

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly management meetings
  • Give clear and direct feedback to staff in accordance with G&B Coffee LLC feedback training guidelines
  • Execute all duties of either front-of-house or back-of-house at the highest level, measured by the G&B Coffee LLC training program
  • Address common facilities maintenance issues autonomously and escalate any unique or special issues appropriately
  • Organize shop-specific events and programming
  • Work with the team to maintain inventory to ensure availability of all offerings and products
  • Find inventive ways to increase revenue

Requirements:

  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of G&B Coffee LLC values and standards, including the 10 Principles of Service
  • Foster an inspiring, team-first atmosphere for all employees (front-of-house and back-of-house)
  • Effectively delegate tasks, involving senior team members in the inner workings of shop operations and management
  • Hold the team accountable to meeting the high standard of G&B Coffee LLC team performance
  • Build long-term customer loyalty
  • Create and perpetually improve systems that are universally applicable in the store and can be implemented with ease
  • Maintain a safe environment for all employees and customers
  • Must possess a food safety manager certification or be willing to attain one within the first 30 days of employment
  • Availability for both weekend days and overall schedule availability
  • Must be able to provide reliable transportation to/from work and for work-related errands
  • Must be proficient with Email, Google Drive, Slack, and Microsoft Office

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of proven management success in a high-volume and/or quality-driven food service environment
  • Previous work experience in a high-volume specialty coffee setting is a plus
  • Experience managing diverse teams
  • Experience with profit and loss statements

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move about the cafe space frequently throughout shift
  • Ability to operate job-related tools, such as espresso machines and coffee brewers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to frequently move prep items in bins weighing up to 40lbs
  • Exposure to kitchen environment with hot surfaces
