Position Overview
OBJECTIVE:
The role involves delivering educational sessions on FAA and NC DOT regulations concerning drone operations, equipping students with the knowledge necessary to succeed in the FAA Part 107 Exam.
SUPERVISION:
- Receives guidance from the Economic and Workforce Development Coordinator and/or Director.
- No supervisory responsibilities.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Core Duties:
- Conduct classroom and practical instruction for students.
- Design lesson plans and organize class activities; create supplementary materials to enhance learning.
- Develop assessments to measure student understanding and performance.
- Demonstrate equipment usage and create lab assignments for hands-on learning experiences.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance.
- Ensure timely submission of all required documentation, including attendance records and grade sheets.
- Implement policies and procedures relevant to the teaching area in alignment with institutional guidelines.
- Evaluate lesson effectiveness and suggest improvements as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Required Knowledge:
- Understanding of FAA regulations, sectional charts, national airspace system, weather alerts, and radio communications.
- Familiarity with NC state laws governing drone operations.
- Awareness of certification and employment pathways in the field.
- Current trends and advancements in unmanned aerial systems.
- Academic and instructional methodologies.
- Interpret and apply institutional goals, policies, and regulations.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Establish collaborative working relationships with colleagues and students.
- Maintain the necessary sensory and cognitive skills for effective teaching and equipment operation.
- Exhibit physical stamina for prolonged periods of instruction and equipment handling.
- Demonstrate sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and skills is acceptable. A typical pathway includes:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current FAA Part 107 remote pilot certification for a minimum of one year.
- NC UAS operator permit.
- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI).
- Two years of experience in Unmanned Aerial Systems.
- Applicants must submit unofficial transcripts and/or training certifications along with their application.
- Official transcripts for all degrees must be provided prior to the start date.
- For degrees obtained outside the US, candidates must have their qualifications evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service.
- Veterans seeking preference must submit a DD Form 214 during the application process.
