As a Sign Language Communication Specialist, you will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication between students, teachers, and staff at our educational institution. This position requires a minimum of 1+ years of experience in sign language interpretation and a strong understanding of Deaf culture.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa to ensure seamless communication.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
- Assist in classroom instruction by interpreting lectures, discussions, and instructional materials.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students with hearing impairments, promoting their engagement and participation in classroom activities.
- Provide one-on-one or small group sign language instruction to students as needed.
- Help students develop language and communication skills, both expressive and receptive.
- Stay updated on the latest techniques and advancements in sign language interpretation and Deaf culture.
- Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpretation, Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent from a recognized certifying organization.
- State-specific teaching or interpreting certifications, as required.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
