Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CAT Scan Technologist 2 to join our team at the University of Miami UHealth System, Department of Radiology. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for performing complex procedures in CT Scan, operating radiographic equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images with minimal radiation exposure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review CT Scan orders for appropriateness based on protocol to diagnosis and any additional physician comments.
  • Notify supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contact physician's office for correct orders if necessary.
  • Verify patient ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient's wrist band, maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Apply physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/developmental requirement by competency validation checklist.
  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients or family members, obtaining necessary consents, and providing exam education.
  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age-appropriate standards of practice.
  • Integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records and adapt exam as necessary.
  • Adhere to CT protocols to maintain high-quality ultrasound standards.
  • Assist positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
  • Adhere to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH, and FDA/MQSA.
  • Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection, and equipment disinfection).
  • Keep work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stock exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
  • Evaluate CT scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure, and appropriately label.
  • Film/transmit to PACS. Report unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.
  • Dispense oral contrast to patients for scans and/or load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
  • Provide assistance with orientation, training, and education of students and new technologists, acting in a team leader capacity on a routine basis.
  • Demonstrate equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators and provide in-service classes in section.
  • Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
  • Perform basic nursing functions in patient care.
  • Assume care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiate life support measures for patients if necessary; assist in 'Code Blue' procedure during medical emergencies.
  • Perform CPR as needed.
  • Assist radiologists and PhDs in developing new protocols and CAT Scan imaging techniques that are unique to the facility.
  • Monitor charging of procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in relevant field.
  • ARRT registration.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
