About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Product Engineer to join our team at Grand Rapids Chair CO. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for creating technical and detailed design drawings using CAD software for new product designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and evaluate first prototypes analytically and physically to ensure technical function.
  • Build relationships and mentor team members to drive product innovation and growth.
  • Manage and oversee projects, budgets, and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Establish and grow relationships with suppliers, marketing, customer service, and program managers to drive business growth.
  • Collaborate directly with designers and marketing to achieve new product goals.
  • Create and translate Solid Works models and drawings into complete ERP setup for new products and to industry standards.
  • Develop methods of manufacture to serve as both process instruction and a basis for costing parts.
  • Create extensions and enhancements to existing product lines.
  • Conduct cost savings exercises to drive business efficiency.
  • Work safely and follow all company rules and procedures.
  • Travel to conduct research and learn new processes to bring back to GRCC.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 7-10 years' experience in product design, preferably in furniture or automotive.
  • Proven track record in product launch and program management.
  • Deep understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), including life cycle testing.
  • Proficient in Solid Works, Auto Cad, and Corel Draw.
  • Physical testing experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of wood, steel, aluminum, and welding and fastening.
  • 2D stack-ups knowledge and a proven working knowledge of GD & T.
  • Ability to work coach and mentor product engineers and others.
  • Ability to lead brainstorming sessions to generate multiple ideas, rank them, and try them.
  • Ability to create and amend processes for work.
  • Run design of experiments and do root cause analysis, then offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Experience working on prototypes for validation.
