Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the teacher in providing a quality educational program for assigned students, including providing additional time for planning and instruction.
  • Support non-instructional and concept/skill reinforcement tasks, such as preparing displays of student work and securing materials and equipment.
  • Provide students with opportunities for additional adult/student relationships and interactions.
  • Participate in building activities, meetings, parent conferences, and training sessions as determined by the building administration or assigned certified teacher.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of buses and recess duty as needed.
  • Inform the certified teacher of any specific needs or concerns regarding students.
  • Carry out suggestions as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with medical and grooming needs of students when necessary.
Requirements
  • Must have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 credits), obtained an associate's or higher degree, or achieved a passing score on a MDE-approved assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with students, parents, staff, and community in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children.
  • Demonstrated good attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrated respect for confidential information.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated good organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of the team.
Work Environment

The Classroom Paraprofessional will work in a dynamic and fast-paced educational environment, interacting with students, staff, and community members. The position requires the ability to work in all outdoor environments, including hot, cold, snow, and rain. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
