Respiratory Care Technician
GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
The Respiratory Care Technician is responsible for delivering essential respiratory therapy services to patients under the guidance of physicians and established protocols. Key responsibilities include administering Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV), providing medicated aerosol treatments, conducting bronchial hygiene therapy, facilitating lung expansion therapy, and performing basic CPR.
This role requires the ability to assess changes in patient conditions, exercise independent judgment, and adjust care in accordance with departmental standards and physician directives. Responsibilities also include cleaning, organizing, inventorying, and maintaining all respiratory care equipment, as well as managing the supply of respiratory materials.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A candidate must be a graduate of or currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. Completion of the first clinical year is preferred. A provisional license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist, as recognized by the Idaho State Board of Medicine, or enrollment in a full-time American Medical Association accredited Respiratory Therapy program is required.
Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers from AHA, ARC, or the Military Training Network is mandatory upon hire, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as per the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Respiratory Care Technician is expected to embody and demonstrate the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in all actions and decisions. The technician must proficiently clean and assemble respiratory equipment and fulfill the duties of an equipment technician, including patient billing, inventory management, and supply ordering.
Revenue management is crucial; the technician must ensure accurate documentation of services and supplies provided to patients. Competency in caring for all age groups (Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric) is essential. The technician will perform and monitor the clinical effectiveness of general floor therapy modalities (not critical care qualified) and demonstrate knowledge of non-invasive ventilation techniques (NPPV or BiPAP).

Saint Alphonsus Health System is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Our Mission and Core Values serve as the foundation for our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our operations.
