SUMMARY OF ROLE:

The Respiratory Therapy Technician is responsible for delivering essential respiratory care services to patients as instructed by medical professionals and established protocols. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV), administering medicated aerosols, conducting bronchial hygiene therapy, performing lung expansion therapy, and executing basic CPR procedures.

The technician must demonstrate proficiency in recognizing changes in patient conditions, exercising independent judgment, and adjusting care in accordance with departmental standards and physician directives. Responsibilities also include cleaning, packaging, inventorying, and maintaining all respiratory care equipment, as well as checking, delivering, and restocking respiratory supplies as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Applicants must be graduates of or currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. Completion of the first clinical year is preferred. Candidates should possess either a provisional license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist as per the Idaho State Board of Medicine or be enrolled as a full-time student in an American Medical Association recognized Respiratory Therapy program.

Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers from AHA, ARC, or the Military Training Network is mandatory upon hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as outlined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The technician is expected to understand, embody, and demonstrate the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in all actions and decisions. Responsibilities include proficiently cleaning and assembling respiratory equipment and fulfilling other duties associated with the role, such as patient billing, inventory management, and supply ordering.

Revenue management is critical; the technician must ensure accurate documentation of services and supplies provided to patients. Additionally, the technician should possess the knowledge and skills necessary to competently care for all assigned age groups (Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable). The role includes performing and monitoring the clinical effectiveness of general floor therapy modalities (not critical care qualified) and demonstrating knowledge and application of non-invasive ventilation techniques (NPPV or BiPAP).
