Job SummaryWe are seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our team at Fresenius Medical Care. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our patients and healthcare team. Your primary responsibilities will include providing safe and effective dialysis therapy, obtaining and documenting vital signs, and evaluating patient responses to treatment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Set up, test, and operate hemodialysis machines for patient treatments.
- Obtain and document necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight for each patient.
- Evaluate vascular access pre-treatment and perform vascular access cannulation.
- Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed.
- Monitor patients' responses to dialysis therapy.
- Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access and discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures.
- Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to supervisor.
- Enter all treatment data into the designated clinical application in an accurate and timely manner.
- Collect, label, and store lab samples according to required laboratory specifications.
- Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
- Assist other healthcare members in providing patient education.
- Prepare, organize, and efficiently use supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility (preferred but not required).
- Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the Fresenius Medical Care dialysis training program and successful completion of CPR certification.
The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. The position provides direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance. This position requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and the employee must be able to bend over. The employee may occasionally be required to push and/or pull equipment, exerting up to 15 pounds of force.
