I. Position Overview

The Waste Approvals Manager is responsible for conducting technical evaluations of environmental data, supporting sales and operational teams, ensuring compliance with hazardous waste regulations, and executing other related responsibilities as needed.

II. Key Responsibilities

To excel in this role, the individual must effectively perform the following duties:

  • Implement and uphold Site Permits.
  • Ensure adherence to Local, State, and Federal Regulations.
  • Enforce Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Communicate Site Policies to Sales, Customer Service, and Clients.
  • Alert Site and Market Area Management of potential Health, Safety, Operational, or Political issues related to specific waste streams.
  • Clarify Waste Acceptance criteria to Sales, Customer Service, and Clients.
  • Conduct Customer Audits and Facility Inspections.
  • Review and assess Disposal Application Packages.
  • Address issues found in Waste Disposal Applications with Sales, Customer Service, and Clients.
  • Authorize Disposal Applications.
  • Engage with State Regulators and Local Officials.
  • Train Sales and Customer Service teams on Waste Acceptance protocols.
  • Resolve discrepancies in manifests and non-conforming loads.
  • Communicate with state agencies regarding unresolved significant load discrepancies as mandated by permits.
  • Provide technical support for operations, including the disposal of site-generated waste.
  • Assist in the development of program procedures and guidance documentation.

III. Supervisory Duties

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

IV. Qualifications

The following qualifications are essential for this role:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field, or a High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with environmental laboratory data.
  • Preferred Experience: 5 years of experience in environmental regulation.

V. Certifications and Skills

  • Professional Certifications (e.g., CHMM) are preferred.
  • Proficiency in analyzing environmental laboratory data.
  • Familiarity with Federal Hazardous Waste Regulations.
  • Competence in MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with RCRA regulations.

VI. Language and Mathematical Skills

Ability to read and interpret various documents, including safety rules and technical procedures. Strong writing skills for reports and correspondence are required. Effective verbal communication skills are necessary for addressing groups of customers and employees.

Mathematical skills must include the ability to perform basic calculations and to compute figures such as percentages and volumes.

VII. Reasoning Skills

Ability to prioritize tasks and apply common sense to follow instructions in various formats. Problem-solving skills are essential.

IX. Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $80,500 - $118,105, influenced by factors such as experience, education, and location. This role is also eligible for incentive pay.
