Data Scientist II - T&D Operations

PacifiCorp is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist II to join our T&D Operations team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support on complex and business-critical projects related to wildfire mitigation, asset performance, and T&D Operations across six states. You will leverage large data sets to inform long-term risk analysis and aid in decision-making. Your expertise will be invaluable in developing tools and analysis to inform data-driven decisions. You will work closely with senior leadership to develop presentations and recommend changes to meet company goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research studies and technical analyses in areas of specialized data science to support company objectives.
  • Support data science projects, processes, or systems over the life cycle of the project.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to analyze complex problems and deliver solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise across business units to support functions such as wildfire mitigation and reliability.
  • Develop detailed computational analysis and integrate methods and products within and across company software products.
  • Participate in government, industry, collegiate, and other applicable associations or work groups.
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Support data literacy and scripting knowledge development across the team.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Math, or Engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a power/utility/energy industry or related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in Python (or related language).
  • Knowledge of SQL query construction and optimization.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way through visualizations.
  • Ability to review scientific literature and incorporate knowledge into ongoing projects.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and support multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for data science and data governance.


Preferences:
  • Experience in Python (or related language) and associated libraries for machine learning.
  • Experience with time series modeling and forecasting.
  • Experience working with public utility commissions (PUCs) and their requirements/regulations.
  • Experience working in the utilities, risk management, or wildfire mitigation sector.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Azure Machine Learning environment.
  • Experience with C#, Spark, or R.
  • Understanding of the Company's business and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Experience with wildfire science or wildfire-related analytics use cases strongly preferred.
  • Experience using ESRI toolsets including ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
  • Experience utilizing Python geospatial packages such as matplotlib, shapely, and other relevant spatial tools.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 12.00% of salary.
