CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR INSTRUCTOR POSITION for the upcoming academic term

UCLA Master of Social Science Program

Position Description:

The UCLA Master of Social Science program (MaSS) is seeking to hire an instructor to teach SOC SC 402 Quantitative Data Analysis in Social Science. This course is essential for all students enrolled in the MaSS program. The anticipated enrollment is approximately 25 students. SOC SC 402 provides students with an introduction to fundamental statistics and data science tools that are widely utilized in the social sciences. Students will cultivate essential skills for assessing and presenting quantitative research findings. The statistical concepts covered will include descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, probability, statistical tests, correlation and causation, and regression analysis. This course will utilize the R statistical programming language.

The course will be delivered in a seminar format and will incorporate a blend of lectures, demonstrations of software tools, guided self-study, collaborative team work, and discussions.

This position is a 50% appointment, with a reasonable estimate for this position being paid at an annual rate of $70,295 (salary point 3).

This position is represented by the University Council - American Federation of Teachers. Internal applicants will be considered for reappointment prior to the consideration of external applicants.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a PhD in a social science or a related field. Prior experience teaching quantitative methods, quantitative data analysis, or statistics, preferably at the graduate level, is required. Additionally, proficiency in R statistical programming is essential.
