The Insurance Reimbursement Specialist plays a crucial role in liaising with insurance providers to confirm patient coverage through various communication methods including phone, online portals, and fax. This position requires strict adherence to HIPAA regulations while executing all responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Confirm patient eligibility and benefits for durable medical equipment with health insurance plans.
- Identify potential issues with insurance coverage that could affect the reimbursement process.
- Understand and clarify the authorization procedures and requirements set by payers for durable medical equipment.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of benefits in the patient management system.
- Analyze complex payer situations and offer strategic guidance on reimbursement matters.
- Collaborate with team members to supply insurance benefit details for prior authorization requests and product deliveries.
- Record patient insurance benefits in the database and verify the accuracy of existing information.
- Support the Reimbursement Operations Department and other teams as required, including re-verification of benefits.
- Propose improvements for interdepartmental efficiencies.
- Maintain registration with payer portals.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience utilizing Insurance Payer Portals (e.g., Availity, NaviNet) or similar technologies.
Preferred:
- At least 1 year of experience in medical insurance benefits and/or training.
- Prior experience with durable medical equipment.
Skills and Knowledge
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Able to maintain focus and achieve key performance metrics in a fast-paced environment.
- Results-oriented and proactive approach.
- Strong persuasive abilities with third-party payers.
- Effective communication skills with patients, field representatives, clinicians, payers, colleagues, and management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
