Job Description Summary

Tutors work in the Academic Success Center (ASC) or assigned department, providing one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them understand course concepts and become independent learners. Tutors share learning, studying, and test-taking strategies, perform clerical duties, and work with students from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate possesses excellent time management, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills. Variable work hours may include evenings and weekends, up to 27.5 hours per week, with schedules arranged on a semester-by-semester basis.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts individual, small group, and/or remote tutoring sessions.
  • Assesses, assists, and encourages students during tutoring sessions.
  • Monitors tutor appointment schedules.
  • Assists students with making appointments.
  • Assists in the development of workshops and exam reviews.
  • Facilitates group study sessions (workshops, exam reviews, etc.).
  • Participates in tutor training sessions and department meetings.
  • Represents the ASC during classroom visitations, orientations, and campus-wide events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced levels and proficiency in the subject areas to be tutored.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse educational, cultural, religious, and social backgrounds.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours weekly.
