Job Title: Lead Teacher - Academic Development Specialist

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Teacher - Academic Development Specialist to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Lead Teacher - Academic Development Specialist will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating academic programs for youth ages 6 to 18. This includes providing individual tutoring and homework assistance, designing and facilitating activities to increase student interest and enrichment, and providing tutoring for high-risk students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized tutoring and homework assistance to Club members and assist volunteers in providing similar support.
  • Design and plan activities to increase student interest and engagement in homework assignments.
  • Provide targeted tutoring for high-risk students who require additional support in language, reading, math, and science.
  • Assist students with special homework assignments and projects.
  • Become familiar with current textbooks and learning materials used by students.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a valid State of Florida teaching certificate or National Teaching Accreditation.
  • Ability to pass DCF Level II background screening and drug test.
  • Knowledge of youth development principles and ability to motivate youth and manage behavior issues.
  • Ability to work with the public and plan and implement quality programs specific to academic development.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

Work Environment:

This position typically works 2.5 to 3 hours per day, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 2PM and 7PM. However, longer hours may be required outside of this schedule when necessary. Work is conducted indoors.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time; bending and squatting on occasion.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. on occasion.
  • Ability to hear at a normal conversational level.
  • Ability to maintain a high energy level when necessary.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence.
