Position Summary:
The role involves responding to 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls from the community, gathering critical information, and entering data into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. The operator will also direct callers to the appropriate agencies and facilitate assistance as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update computer records related to calls, ensuring all logs and documents are accurately filed and referred to the Shift Supervisor when necessary.
  • Support trained Communications Officers in transmitting orders and receiving messages from various emergency response units, including law enforcement, fire, and EMS.
  • Assist the public over the phone to collect accurate and relevant information.
  • Recognize duplicate and related calls, screening communications from areas with frequent issues.
  • Stay informed about emergency alert protocols and disaster response procedures.
  • Make timely notifications regarding calls as required.
  • Complete necessary training and certification, including GCIC/NCIC, within the initial employment period.
  • Observe and learn the operation of GCIC/NCIC, entering information on stolen vehicles and missing persons.
  • Develop knowledge of major roads, access routes, and ongoing construction projects.
  • Attend training sessions and classes as directed.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a US citizen or a naturalized citizen.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Criminal and driving history checks are mandatory for certification.
  • Typing speed of at least 32 words per minute with 80% accuracy.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the qualifications.

Certifications Required:

  • GCIC/NCIC Certification within the first thirty days of employment.
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Certification within two months of hire.
  • CPR Certification within two months of hire.
  • P.O.S.T. Basic Communications Officer Certification within six months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the geography of Hall County and its municipalities.
  • Ability to read maps effectively.
  • Clear and articulate verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to make quick, accurate decisions and communicate effectively during emergencies.
  • Proficient typing and computer skills.
  • Ability to understand and utilize signals, codes, and clear text in emergency communications.
  • Ability to interact courteously and diplomatically with the public and colleagues.
  • Capacity to maintain effective relationships with various agency officials and public safety representatives.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:
This position requires the ability to remain stationary for extended periods, operate office machinery, and manage stress effectively. Candidates must be able to think analytically, handle multiple tasks, and maintain organization. Essential functions may require occasional lifting of items up to 10 lbs, bending, and reaching.
