Assessment Process:

The appraisal (Weight 100%) will be conducted to assess the applicant's qualifications, training, experience, motivation, and suitability for the role. The evaluation may involve various methods, including investigations, oral examinations, and application assessments.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment. Specialized licenses may be required for specific roles.
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent AND successful completion of a California P.O.S.T. approved Police or Sheriff's Academy (Basic Peace Officer Course); or possession of a Basic or higher P.O.S.T. Certificate.
Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 70% in each phase of the evaluation process.

In compliance with Government Code Section 1031, candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.

Physical and Psychological Standards:
Applicants must be evaluated and found free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions that could negatively impact their performance as a peace officer.

Medical Examination:
A comprehensive medical examination by a county physician is mandatory, including spine and chest x-rays, blood tests, and an electrocardiogram. Weight must be proportionate to height and age.

Psychological Evaluation:
Emotional and mental health will be assessed by a qualified psychologist in accordance with the standards set by the Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training.

Vision Requirements:
20/100 uncorrected vision in each eye (correctable to 20/20) with no color deficiencies or progressive abnormalities.

Hearing Requirements:
No hearing impairments.

Age Requirement:
Applicants must be at least 21 years old by the final filing date.

Character Assessment:
A thorough background investigation, including fingerprinting, is required. Candidates must demonstrate a reputation for honesty, integrity, and good moral character. Felony convictions will disqualify candidates, and certain misdemeanor offenses may also disqualify them.

Background Evaluation:
The background check will include a pre-employment polygraph examination and psychological evaluation to assess overall suitability for the role. Candidates must meet all requirements satisfactorily.
