Job Title: Principal Team Lead for Power System Software in Transmission
Job Summary:
This role involves overseeing a proficient team dedicated to the creation and implementation of software solutions for power systems within the Transmission Operations sector. The position also entails facilitating strategic software policy alignment between the team and other corporate divisions, including Information Security and software quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct the development and upkeep of various research and development software tools pertinent to transmission operations and the integration of large-scale renewable energy sources.
- Offer mentorship and direction to team members regarding software development methodologies and best practices, including testing protocols, architectural standards, and schema design.
- Engage with corporate software teams to provide constructive feedback on behalf of the Transmission Operations and Planning group.
- Assist area leads in formulating and executing strategies for software delivery to stakeholders.
- Oversee the development and deployment of products and services through collaboration with EPRI personnel, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
- Exercise significant discretion in establishing technical objectives for assignments.
- Review completed work with a long-term perspective to ensure desired outcomes.
- Manage project timelines and monitor financial expenditures.
- Coordinate external and interdepartmental activities to guarantee timely project completion within budget constraints.
- May engage in research within complex, high-impact technical or scientific domains.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A minimum of ten years of experience in research and development project management, showcasing advanced skills in research methodologies, project oversight, and technology transfer.
- Proven experience in managing research initiatives, particularly those focused on power system software tools.
- Demonstrated history of leading small software teams in an Agile development framework.
- Proficient in navigating software quality assurance, licensing regulations, and security protocols.
- Highly skilled in programming languages such as Python, C, or C#, and adept in utilizing Git for version control.
- Experience with power systems analysis tools like PSS/E, PSLF, or PowerFactory, along with a solid understanding of power flow principles and related topics such as unit commitment.
- Comfortable in establishing software development best practices and providing mentorship and code reviews for junior developers and engineers.
- Experience in effectively managing project proposals and marketing initiatives.
- Accountable for project planning, budgeting, deliverables, and overall project success.
- Responsible for defining project scope and managing multiple complex projects while promoting innovative concepts.
