Job Overview:
This role involves leading a specialized team focused on the development and implementation of software solutions for Transmission Operations and Planning. The position also entails facilitating strategic software policy alignment with other organizational teams, ensuring a cohesive approach to software development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the creation and upkeep of various research and development software tools associated with transmission operations and the integration of large-scale renewable energy sources.
- Provide mentorship and direction to team members regarding software development methodologies and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional software teams to ensure quality assurance and compliance with security protocols.
- Assist in formulating and executing strategies for software delivery to stakeholders.
- Manage the lifecycle of products and services through collaboration with internal staff and external contractors.
- Exercise significant discretion in defining technical objectives for projects.
- Review completed work with a long-term perspective to ensure alignment with desired outcomes.
- Plan and oversee project schedules while monitoring financial expenditures.
- Coordinate activities across departments to guarantee timely project completion within budget constraints.
- Engage in research within complex technical domains as necessary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A minimum of ten years of experience in research and development, showcasing advanced project management and technology transfer skills.
- Proven experience in managing research initiatives, particularly those related to power system software tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead small software teams in an Agile development setting.
- Familiarity with software quality assurance practices, licensing, and security requirements.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, C, or C#, and adept in using Git for version control.
- Experience with power systems analysis tools like PSS/E, PSLF, or PowerFactory, along with a solid understanding of power flow principles and related topics.
- Comfortable with developing coding standards and conducting code reviews with junior developers.
- Experience in managing project proposals and marketing efforts successfully.
- Accountable for project planning, budgeting, deliverables, and overall success.
- Capable of defining project scope and managing complex initiatives while promoting innovative concepts.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. This role is eligible for participation in the organization's annual incentive program and standard employee benefit offerings, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
