About the Role

Sentry, a leading open-source company, is seeking a visionary Head of Cybersecurity to join our team. As a strategic role, the Head of Cybersecurity will play a pivotal part in ensuring the trust of our users while maintaining our open-source practice.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in security program management and team leadership, with a proven track record in building and scaling security programs, including bug bounties and penetration testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Comprehensive Security Practices: Align security practices with Sentry's open-source ethos, ensuring the trust of our users.
  • Scale Security Programs: Develop and implement comprehensive security practices, including bug bounties, detection and response, vulnerability management, and red team operations.
  • Drive Automation and Toolchain Improvements: Enhance security processes through automation and toolchain improvements.
  • Lead and Grow a World-Class Security Team: Mentor and up-level the security skills of your team, driving growth and development.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with the CTO and IT/Compliance teams to develop and sustain robust security practices, ensuring consistent alignment on policies, operational workflows, service level agreements (SLAs), and organizational expectations.
  • Advocate for Leading-Edge Security Solutions: Implement cutting-edge security solutions that respect our open-source nature.
  • Prepare and Guide Sentry's Security Posture: Ensure compliance with public company requirements, guiding Sentry's security posture through the IPO process.
Requirements
  • 10+ Years of Relevant Experience: Proven expertise in security program management and team leadership, with at least 5 years in security-focused roles.
  • Prior Experience in Security Program Management: Proven track record in building and scaling security programs, including bug bounties and penetration testing.
  • Strong Technical Background: Strong technical background in computer science or equivalent software engineering experience.
  • Experience Working at a Pre-IPO Company: Proven ability to navigate the security challenges of taking a company public.
  • Understanding of SEC Requirements: Familiarity with SEC requirements and public company security standards.
  • Ability to Develop and Implement Security Strategies: Proven ability to develop and implement security strategies that align with both open-source principles and public company obligations.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.

The base salary range for this position is $230,000 to $260,000. A successful candidate's actual base salary will be determined by a variety of relevant factors, including work location, education, work and other relevant experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. A successful candidate will be eligible to participate in Sentry's employee benefit plans/programs, including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage.
