Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Bridge Inspection Engineer (PE) to join our team at Clark Nexsen. As a key member of our bridge safety inspection team, you will be responsible for assisting in various aspects of bridge safety inspection projects, including field inspections, report preparation, and team leadership duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in field inspections to include bridge safety inspections and structural condition assessments
  • Prepare bridge safety inspection reports and review reports written by other engineers/inspectors
  • Supervise and direct the work of inspectors, EITs, and CADD technicians as appropriate
  • Develop and calculate bridge live load ratings
  • Coordinate with vendors, subconsultants, and owners/agencies as appropriate
  • Meet with clients to prepare and validate scope of work
  • Prepare marketing and presentation materials as directed
  • Obtain guidance from Senior Bridge Engineers and the Department Head as necessary
  • Comply with company quality control practices and procedures
  • Work with, respond to, and take direction from Managing Principals, Project Managers, Operations Directors, and senior management
  • Mentor and monitor the professional development of junior bridge inspection staff
Requirements
  • Graduate of an ABET-accredited college or university in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis), Civil and Environmental Engineering (structural emphasis), or Civil Engineering Technology (structural emphasis)
  • Fully licensed Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer in at least one US state, preferably in the local jurisdiction
  • NCEES Record to facilitate licensure through reciprocity is desirable
  • Active participation in NSPE, ASCE, ASHE, or other related professional organizations is desirable
  • Minimum of two (2) years of bridge inspection experience is desirable
  • Knowledge and familiarity of the National Bridge Inspection Standards, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, and the Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual
  • Prior experience in the design and/or construction of bridges is desirable
  • Prior experience on VDOT and/or Federal bridge inspection projects is desirable
Work Environment

This position requires travel an average of 50% of the time and may involve times outside normal working hours and on weekends. Work may involve standing, walking, and climbing for 8+ hours a day, lifting 50-60 pounds, and operating bridge safety inspection equipment at varying heights, including over water and in confined spaces.
