Role Responsibilities:

The position of Residential Substance Abuse Counselor presents a unique opportunity to engage with clients in a supportive 24/7 environment. Clients will receive services on-site, ensuring a dynamic and engaging atmosphere.

The Substance Abuse Counselor will be responsible for delivering interventions and therapeutic services for substance use disorders, both individually and in group settings. This role involves collaboration with a clinical team to evaluate client needs, formulate personalized service plans, and advocate for clients while liaising with families and community organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct care aimed at assessing, diagnosing, and treating adults and their families, tailoring services to meet their specific needs. Facilitate substance abuse support groups utilizing approved agency curricula. Leverage community resources and referrals to enhance treatment outcomes.
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions to address substance use issues, incorporating trauma-informed therapeutic approaches.
  • Operate independently and responsibly while participating in the design, execution, and assessment of treatment and prevention initiatives.
  • Maintain comprehensive, timely, and high-quality clinical documentation for all services provided, ensuring that records reflect the client's engagement and responses accurately.
  • Guarantee the delivery of quality services, including clinical care and associated responsibilities. Apply best practice therapeutic methodologies whenever feasible. Keep client records current and compliant with agency policies, as well as state and federal regulations. Engage in the agency's Quality Management Program as necessary.
  • Actively participate in regular supervision, welcoming constructive feedback and suggestions in a collaborative manner.
  • Engage regularly and positively with the clinical team, support staff, and administrative personnel.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in a behavioral health discipline is required, with relevant fields including Social Work, Psychology, or Family Studies.
  • Experience in addressing substance abuse challenges and facilitating group sessions is essential.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to meet deadlines accurately are necessary.
  • Knowledge of community resources, trauma-informed care, and the ability to customize treatment plans are crucial.
  • Fingerprint clearance card or eligibility to obtain one is required.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment.

Additional Expectations:

  • Engage in all scheduled administrative, in-service, and staff meetings, offering recommendations for service delivery improvements.
  • Facilitate communication with other agency departments to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in committees and work groups as requested, providing training and guidance to interns and colleagues in your area of expertise.
  • Adhere to the agency's standards for service delivery.
  • Foster and maintain effective working relationships with state, community, and partner organizations.
  • Undertake additional related duties and participate in agency fundraising initiatives as requested.
