Custodian Specialist Job Description

The University of Vermont is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian Specialist to join our Facilities Management team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean and maintain floor surfaces, including dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, top scrubbing, and buffing floors.
  • Operate powered scrubbing and burnishing machines to strip floors of finish.
  • Clean water fountains, waste receptacles, and windows.
  • Remove trash and recycled items, and maintain a safe and clean living, learning, and work environment.
  • May respond to after-hours emergency calls and operate a University vehicle.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma and one year of custodial experience required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak basic English required.
  • Ability to successfully complete ten-hour OSHA training on construction, safety, and health issues required.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain a driver's license and driver's check may be required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Lifting of up to 50 lbs. and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. occasionally required.
