Position Title: Community Living Support Specialist (All Shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnight hours)
Reports to: Program Manager
General Overview: This role involves providing essential support within a residential program dedicated to adults facing severe and persistent mental health challenges. Community Living Support Specialists play a crucial role in assisting residents' transition to community living by offering guidance and practical support in alignment with a recovery-oriented care model.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor adults in a group setting, delivering supportive services, teaching independent living skills, and intervening during crises as necessary. Maintain awareness of all resident-related matters.
- Facilitate and oversee residents in the self-management of routine household tasks (e.g., meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, etc.), ensuring completion of assigned responsibilities while providing hands-on support and instruction as needed.
- Offer guidance and instruction in developing Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills (e.g., budgeting, personal hygiene, nutrition, social interactions, etc.).
- Design and implement rehabilitative group sessions for residents.
- For specific programs, lead and co-lead groups to fulfill required hours of group and individual work focused on intensive ADL, social, and psychological rehabilitation.
- Oversee residents' self-administration of prescribed medications.
- Document significant behavioral observations in the electronic health record system, prepare necessary reports, and communicate any unusual behaviors to the social worker and program manager. Maintain records of all resident interactions and collateral contacts.
- Encourage residents to participate in planned activities (day programs, employment opportunities, events, etc.).
- Conduct and document safety drills, report maintenance needs, and restock household supplies.
- Engage in staff meetings, training sessions, case conferences, and other required gatherings.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to program operations.
- Stay informed about resident issues and assist with appointments and counseling as needed.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Provide transportation for residents to and from day programs and appointments as required.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of fundamental principles of human development and mental health disorders.
- Ability and enthusiasm for teaching, coaching, and fostering the development of essential independent living skills.
- Basic comprehension of empathy towards individuals with mental health conditions.
- Knowledge of first aid, crisis intervention, and emergency response protocols.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, internet navigation, and cloud-based systems.
- Capability to document information accurately and promptly in the electronic health record system.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Flexibility to work evening and overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays as required. Available shifts include Monday-Friday, 2 PM-11 PM, Saturday/Sunday, 9 AM-4 PM, 4 PM-11 PM, and overnight shifts from 11 PM-9 AM.
- Interest in collaborative teamwork and a supportive work environment.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in the mental health sector; an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience in residential care settings is advantageous.
A valid driver's license, auto insurance, and access to a company vehicle during work hours are required.
Compensation:
Starting pay is $20/hour, commensurate with experience.
