About The Director of Federal Affairs

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Federal Affairs to lead our federal strategy and bring our federal powerbuilding to the next level. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legislative and electoral work, with a proven track record of building relationships with Congressional leaders and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute our federal strategy, including identifying priority races and supervising staff involved in those efforts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with WFP champion members of Congress and their staffs, both legislative and campaign-side.
  • Represent WFP in partnerships and national coalition spaces with allied organizations, including coalitions focused on advocacy and legislative strategy.
  • Exercise leadership in identifying pathways to success in legislative and other fights within Congress.
Requirements
  • 10+ years experience in legislative, electoral, and organizing work, with significant experience working in Congress or another legislative body.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with Congressional leaders and staff.
  • Experience with fundraising, with a strong willingness to learn and grow in this area.
  • Management experience, ideally including managing managers.
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills, including facilitation.
  • The ability to work independently and hold yourself accountable in a remote work environment.
