Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Biological Science Assistant to join our team at the State of Oregon. As a key member of our Fish Health Services team, you will play a critical role in the detection, prevention, and control of fish diseases and losses.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Assist in the collection and examination of fish samples to identify and monitor fish diseases.
  • Conduct laboratory tests and analyses to determine the presence and severity of fish diseases.
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent and control the spread of fish diseases.
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement fish health management plans.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including hatchery staff, to share information and coordinate efforts.

**Requirements:**

  • Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however, we are seeking applicants with a strong background in fisheries work, laboratory settings, and microbiology.
  • Excellent organizational and technical skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Possession of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science, Animal Sciences, or Microbiology/Biology degree or related degree.

**Working Conditions:**

  • Frequent travel to collect and examine fish, at times during adverse weather and road conditions.
  • Must be able to safely handle chemicals, sampling gear, and lift adult salmon and 5-gallon buckets of fish and water.
  • Ability to withstand handling of dead fish tissues and blood.
