Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a well-established multi-service not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the educational and personal growth of Bronx residents. Our mission is to provide comprehensive resources that empower individuals from early childhood through their career journeys, fostering a thriving community. KHCC serves a diverse population, including families facing various challenges, ensuring an inclusive environment for all.
Role of the College and Career Counselor:
The College and Career Counselors at KHCC are pivotal in guiding high school students in crafting detailed postsecondary plans. This role involves personalized advising, engaging families, conducting workshops, and organizing college and career-related excursions. Each counselor manages a specific caseload, while also collaborating with the broader College Directions team to engage all high school students, particularly juniors and seniors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all facets of college and career programming at KHCC's Student Success Centers, including outreach, recruitment, intake, registration, and daily operations.
- Provide tailored college and career guidance to a significant number of students, focusing on financial aid, college selection, application processes, and enrollment.
- Support students interested in vocational training and alternative post-secondary options.
- Design and execute workshops and events tailored to different grade levels and their specific post-secondary planning needs.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with partner schools to enhance student support.
- Establish partnerships with community organizations and educational institutions to provide enriching opportunities for KHCC participants.
- Foster relationships with youth through daily activities, ensuring appropriate supervision and behavior management.
- Stay updated on trends in college access, including financial aid and scholarship opportunities for low-income students.
- Supervise high school and college-aged peer counselors and bridge coaches.
- Assist in organizing college-related trips and events based on campus and partner school needs.
- Ensure accurate data tracking for KHCC and reporting for funding purposes.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires regular standing, walking, and sitting, as well as the ability to lift and move items of varying weights. Vision abilities necessary for this role include close and distance vision.
