Job Title: Surgical Technologist

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team in the Women Care Birth Center.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to assist in both scheduled and unscheduled obstetrical surgical cases. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of surgical procedures and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist surgeons and surgeon assistants during surgery by passing instruments and sterile supplies.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
  • Transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
  • Assist in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
  • Support cost containment in the use of materials and equipment.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team, nurses, and other departments to ensure a smooth and efficient surgical process.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program.
  • 3 years of current Operating Room experience required for Sr. level, open to new grads.
  • Advanced knowledge of at least 2 surgical specialists with 1 year experience in selected specialty desired.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
