Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Intermediate Critical Care (Full-Time Nights)

Position Overview:

The Medical Intermediate Critical Care Unit is a cutting-edge 29-bed facility dedicated to delivering patient-centered family care to diverse populations, including adolescents, adults, and the elderly.

Unit Mission:

This unit is committed to providing the highest quality of care for patients who require a greater level of attention without necessitating intensive care services.

Nursing Care Model:

Our approach emphasizes a Primary Care Nursing model, ensuring nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-4, allowing for focused and individualized care.

Patient Population:

Nurses in this unit manage a wide range of cases, including:
  • Neurological conditions
  • Medical issues
  • Advanced pulmonary care (CPAP, BiPAP, AVAPS)
  • High-flow oxygen therapy
  • Mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy
  • Surgical and trauma recovery
  • Orthopedic and gastrointestinal care
  • Metabolic monitoring
  • Continuous cardiac and hemodynamic assessment

Our nurses perform vital nursing interventions every two hours and monitor vital signs hourly for up to four hours, ensuring comprehensive patient care.


Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Valid Texas RN License or Eligible Compact License
  • Current BLS & ACLS certification from the American Heart Association

Additionally, a BSN is required or must be obtained within three years of hire, and PCCN Certification is preferred but not mandatory.


Orientation and Training:
  • UMC Hospital Orientation & Nursing Orientation
  • ANCC PTAP accredited Nurse Residency Program
  • Unit-specific orientation as determined by the hiring department
  • Individualized orientation length based on Director's assessment
  • Galen E-learning Curriculum Modules / Online Nursing Competency
