Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and self-directed Jail Deputy to join our team at Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. As a Jail Deputy, you will be responsible for maintaining order, discipline, and security of inmates in County facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain order, discipline, and security of inmates in County facilities
  • Supervise the security and conduct of inmates in cells, during transports, during group meetings, meals, bathing, recreation, visitations, court proceedings, and on work assignments
  • Perform internal security checks to include a visual inspection of the wellbeing of inmates
  • Process inmates admitted and discharged for transfer from facilities
  • Receive and maintain the personal property of inmates
  • Inspect living quarters of inmates for contraband
  • Follow orders/instructions from doctors or nurses in the care of ill inmates
  • Transport inmates within the facility or to and from court, external medical facilities, work locations, or other detention facilities
Requirements
  • Must be currently or have been certified as a basic Corrections Officer or Jail Deputy/Officer with at least one (1) year of civilian law enforcement experience as a Jail Deputy/Officer within the last five (5) years
  • Must be 21 years of age by date of employment
  • Must be a United States citizen or be one within eighteen (18) months of hire
  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate of high school equivalency, or bachelor degree from an accredited institution
  • Must be free from convictions of a serious nature, such as domestic violence, drug-trafficking and manufacturing, and any felony
  • Must be willing to be fingerprinted and have fingerprints filed with the State
  • Must meet the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements as detailed in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-008-0000
  • Must be able to be certified as a corrections officer by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training
  • Must meet the Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer as provided for in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs)
  • Must meet the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office tattoo policy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of criminal attitudes and behavior patterns
  • Knowledge of purposes and methods of discipline as applied to persons under criminal confinement
  • Experience maintaining close security and supervising the activities of inmates working in a correctional or detention facility
  • Experience overseeing inmates in all phases of incarceration
  • Experience writing reports
  • Experience testifying in various proceedings
  • Experience transporting inmates
