Job Overview

Position Summary: The role involves the application of coatings and surface treatments to heavy machinery, oil field equipment, and generator units within a workshop setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares surfaces for painting to ensure optimal application quality.
  • Utilizes various painting tools and techniques to enhance the visual appeal of equipment, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Repairs and aligns body components and panels.
  • Applies fillers to minor imperfections that cannot be smoothed out.
  • Processes surfaces through filing, grinding, and sanding to achieve a smooth finish.
  • Prepares areas for painting by sanding or sandblasting, and protects surrounding components with masking materials.
  • Applies primer and paint to repaired areas with precision, adhering to manufacturer specifications and standards.
  • Maintains cleanliness and operational efficiency of the painting booth and associated equipment.
  • Performs minor mechanical tasks, such as replacing handles and panels.
  • Installs and removes decals on equipment.
  • Conducts final inspections on assembled parts to ensure proper installation.
  • Manages labor costs to align with budgetary expectations.
  • Completes daily documentation to facilitate prompt billing processes.
  • Safeguards company assets and resources, ensuring cleanliness and reliability.
  • Engages in special projects as directed by supervisors to fulfill business requirements.
  • Maintains records of material usage and consumption.
  • Adheres to environmental regulations regarding hazardous waste disposal and maintains a clean workspace.
  • May require overtime based on workload demands.
  • Enhances job knowledge through ongoing training opportunities.
  • Follows safety protocols consistently and complies with all company policies and standards.
  • Regular attendance is essential for this position.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with tools, equipment, and materials used in the painting industry.
  • Understanding of safety practices related to paints and solvents.
  • Basic knowledge of estimating and managing repair costs.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and electronic systems.
  • Skilled in applying finishes using brushes or spray guns.
  • Ability to conduct quality control assessments of products and processes.
  • Competence in operating and managing equipment effectively.
  • Ability to select appropriate tools for specific tasks.
  • Capability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Dexterity in handling tools and equipment for mechanical repairs.
  • Strong reading and comprehension skills.
  • Effective listening and communication abilities.
  • Willingness to learn advanced techniques in the painting field.

Education and Experience:

  • Preferred: One or more years of experience in painting or bodywork within an automotive or similar environment.
  • Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent.

Supervisory Duties:

  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal travel may be required, up to 10%.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and move objects, utilizing core muscles for support.
  • Regularly handles materials or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Requires constant movement and dexterity; stamina is essential.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and navigate equipment safely.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Must respond to visual and auditory signals, including alarms and instructions.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily works indoors in variable conditions, around mechanical equipment and potentially hazardous materials.
  • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Regular exposure to distracting noise levels.

  • Requires the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Involves working in tight spaces and elevated areas.
