Job Overview

Position Summary: This role entails the meticulous painting and sandblasting of heavy machinery, oil field pump skids, generator units, and similar equipment within a workshop setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares surfaces for painting to ensure high-quality application.
  • Utilizes painting and coating tools on designated equipment to enhance aesthetics, leading to customer satisfaction.
  • Repairs body panels and fenders as necessary.
  • Applies body filler to small dents that cannot be repaired through conventional methods.
  • Files, grinds, sands, and smooths surfaces that have been filled or repaired.
  • Sandblasts areas designated for painting and protects bumpers, windows, and trim with masking materials.
  • Applies primer and paint to repaired surfaces with precision, adhering to manufacturer specifications and standards.
  • Maintains cleanliness and operational safety of the paint booth and associated equipment.
  • Conducts minor mechanical tasks to replace components such as handles and panels.
  • Installs and removes equipment decals as required.
  • Performs final inspections on assemblies and installations of replaced parts.
  • Manages labor costs to align with quoted flat rates to meet departmental objectives.
  • Completes daily paperwork to facilitate timely invoicing.
  • Ensures the upkeep of company property and resources, promoting cleanliness and reliability while minimizing expenses.
  • Engages in special projects as directed by the department supervisor to fulfill customer and business requirements.
  • Maintains and submits daily/monthly reports on material usage for compliance with EPA/OSHA regulations, including management of MSDS records.
  • Disposes of hazardous materials responsibly and keeps work areas organized and clean.
  • Works overtime as needed based on workload and customer demands.
  • Enhances job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities.
  • Adheres to safety protocols consistently and complies with all company policies and standards.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is essential.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with tools, equipment, methods, materials, and terminology in the painting industry.
  • Understanding of safety practices related to paints, solvents, and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of estimating, planning, and managing repair job costs.
  • Proficiency with relevant computer software and electronic systems.
  • Skilled in applying paints and finishes using brushes or spray guns.
  • Ability to conduct quality control assessments of products and processes.
  • Capable of selecting appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Competence in executing precise movements with hands for detailed tasks.
  • Strong reading and comprehension skills.
  • Ability to listen and understand verbal instructions effectively.
  • Willingness to learn advanced aspects of the painting profession.

Education and Experience:

  • Preferred: Three or more years of experience in painting or bodywork within an automotive or similar workshop.
  • Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or technical training from an accredited vocational institution is strongly preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional travel (up to 10%) may be required.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be capable of lifting and moving objects, utilizing abdominal and lower back muscles for support over extended periods.
  • Frequently handles materials or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Requires constant movement and dexterity; good coordination and stamina are essential.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Must respond to visual and auditory signals, including alarms and instructions, and conduct visual inspections of work.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily works indoors in non-controlled environments, around moving machinery, and in the presence of fumes and hazardous chemicals.
  • May encounter extreme weather conditions when working outdoors.
  • Exposure to distracting or uncomfortable noise levels is common.
  • May be exposed to contaminants, chemicals, dust, steam, and high-pressure equipment.
  • Specialized protective equipment is required.
