Position Summary:

The RCDD Cable Design Engineer is responsible for delivering design and engineering solutions for structured cabling systems, including technology rooms, raised floor areas, and distribution systems. Key responsibilities encompass estimating project scopes, developing designs and standards, preparing bid documents, conducting bid analyses, and managing RFP processes. The role also involves field surveys and validating as-built documentation. Familiarity with building codes and regulations is essential, as is participation in project close-out activities. The RCDD will contribute to project implementation and validation services related to cable infrastructure across various technologies and projects. A foundational understanding of Wide Area Networking, Data, IP Networks, and Voice is advantageous. This position is part of a global solutions and service delivery team, requiring direct interaction with both internal and external stakeholders, including Global Network, engineering, product/project management, data center, storage, Real Estate, and operations teams. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial. The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently and collaboratively within diverse team settings. The RCDD Cable Design Engineer is recognized as a subject matter expert and is expected to stay abreast of technological advancements, maintain industry certifications, and support organizational objectives and industry trends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies and solutions that align with business needs, utilizing departmental standards and templates.
  • Establish and communicate structured cabling standards to stakeholders and business units.
  • Engage in project-related discussions and discovery sessions with business lines and technology design teams.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable technology specifications.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to devise optimal solutions and validate designs.
  • Coordinate with General Contractors, MEP Engineering, and Architectural firms.
  • Supervise Communications Construction Management (CCM) and cabling contractor activities, addressing site-specific construction challenges.
  • Participate in the infrastructure acceptance process.
  • Support technology project managers during the transition to new infrastructure.
  • Ensure quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Accountable for the quality of service outputs from your work.
  • Prepare professional documentation based on existing templates, including budgets and estimates, while understanding project delivery lifecycle management.
  • Adhere to departmental policies in conjunction with service delivery functions.
  • Work effectively across different time zones, demonstrating flexibility in working hours.
  • Establish technical testing criteria aligned with industry best practices.
Required Qualifications:
  • At least 15 years of experience in creating structured cabling solutions and standards within a data center environment, with experience in commercial infrastructure preferred.
  • Strong background in IT service delivery roles, particularly in engineering support for projects.
  • Experience with multi-vendor solutions across various infrastructure systems and manufacturers.
  • Involvement in the design and/or implementation of significant IT projects.
  • Familiarity with hierarchical network design strategies.
  • Knowledge of relevant ISO/IEC, CENELEC, and BICSI structured cabling standards.
  • Ability to modify designs to meet customer requirements and address unique installation challenges.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • RCDD certification is required.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Management experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of Audio Visual and Security infrastructure cabling and systems.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Visio.
  • Experience in process re-engineering methodologies.
