Democracy Grant Coordinator

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled professional to support the work of our team for a period of one year, and expand its overall capacity.

Our organization is dedicated to investing in organizations working to ensure that our political system is able to withstand new challenges and deliver on its promise to the American people.

We foster more effective governance in the United States, modernize our election system, and strengthen our media and the public square to help people understand and participate in the democratic process.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support our team by reviewing grant application materials and conducting initial due diligence – and monitor legal issues in partnership with senior colleagues.
  • Prepare grant agreements and monitor portfolio data.
  • Compile and analyze grant data for internal reviews and external reporting.
  • Serve as a point of contact for grantees who need technical support.
  • Engage with grantees via site visits and evaluation efforts.
  • Brag about effective methods of building power, resiliency, mobilization, and protection for communities facing threats.
  • Stay informed of best practices in civil rights and community empowerment fields.

Grant Making and Coordination

  • Team player with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture that values collaboration and transparency.
  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally and creatively solve problems.

Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements

  • Passion for strengthening democracy.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Legal studies and experience are valued.
  • Interest in advocacy, particularly in protecting and advancing civil rights.
  • Analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent work ethic and self-motivation.
  • Previous grantmaking experience is valuable but not necessary.
  • A learning mindset and interpersonal relationship development skills.
  • Adaptability, organizational skills, and good judgment in fast-paced environments.
  • Confident communication and writing skills.
  • Prioritization and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000 per year
