Strategic Digital Leader for Democracy Protection

About the Position:

The States United Democracy Center, a nonpartisan organization advancing free and fair elections, seeks a highly skilled Strategic Digital Leader to spearhead our digital efforts. As a key member of the Communications team, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive digital strategies that support our mission.

Job Overview:

This strategic role will involve building on the foundation of our current digital presence, enhancing our online engagement, and driving meaningful conversations around critical democracy topics. You will work closely with senior leadership and program directors to identify organizational goals and develop targeted digital campaigns that educate key audiences and build trust in elections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the execution of our overall digital strategy, encompassing social media, web, email, and ad platforms.
  • Create and execute digital initiatives in support of organizational priorities, collaborating with States United's program directors.
  • Manage digital staff and external vendors, fostering relationships with digital and communication teams in partner and coalition spaces.
  • Lead the development and implementation of digital programs to build trust in elections and educate key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with issue experts and program leads to develop creative digital products supporting reports and research.
  • Work with senior communication staff to develop cohesive organizational messaging, content, announcements, and brand visibility.
  • Oversight and advancement of digital best practices, including analysis and reporting of metrics, audience listening, and testing.
  • Manage the digital budget in coordination with the Communications Director and approval from organizational leadership.
  • Lead special projects, such as educating organizational leaders on digital trends, training staff on digital tools, and developing processes and guidance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of experience managing and mentoring digital staff
  • Experience developing and testing comprehensive paid digital campaigns on various topics, managing multiple campaigns simultaneously
  • Proactive in suggesting digital strategies to meet organizational goals and reach key audiences
  • Ability to effectively manage personal and team workload with competing priorities, developing and executing campaigns in a rapid response environment
  • Strong project management skills, allocating and optimizing resources to meet multiple goals
  • Effective communication across all levels of the organization and democracy field, including senior leadership, partner organizations, and elected officials
  • Strong writing skills, clear expertise developing and adapting messaging for digital platforms
  • Experience managing vendors and consultants
  • 10+ years working in advocacy, political, campaign, or government communications; at least 6 years of relevant digital experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on issues of elections/voting, government, misinformation, and/or democracy protection strongly preferred
  • Experience using project management tools (Asana, Monday, etc.)
  • Basic coding skills (HTML5, JavaScript)
  • Experience managing a WordPress Content Management System (CMS)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The salary range for this position is $160,000-$180,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
