POSITION SUMMARY:
The Licensed Practical Nurse Supervisor is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents while managing the daily nursing activities performed by nursing aides.
This management must adhere to the applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, along with any directives from the Director of Nursing to ensure the highest quality of care is consistently maintained.
PRIMARY DUTIES:Oversee the daily functions of nursing aides. Collaborate with your assigned nursing team and support personnel to plan the services, programs, and activities for the shift. Prepare written and verbal reports/recommendations regarding shift operations as necessary. Manage the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for residents as required. Provide direction to nursing staff assigned to your unit/shift.
Complete and maintain necessary documentation/forms/charts upon resident admission, transfer, and/or discharge. Receive and transcribe physician orders via telephone and document them on the Physician's Order Form.
Document nursing notes in a clear and descriptive manner that accurately reflects the care delivered to the resident and their response to that care.
Complete and submit accident/incident reports to the Director as required. Conduct routine charting duties in accordance with established documentation policies and procedures.Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the physician.
Foster and maintain a positive working relationship with inter-departmental personnel and other facility departments to ensure that nursing services and activities meet the residents' needs.
Establish and sustain an environment of warmth, personal engagement, and positive reinforcement, while ensuring a calm atmosphere throughout the unit and shift.
Exchange nursing reports at the beginning and end of each shift. Accompany physicians on rounds as necessary.Provide professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, dressing changes, colostomy care, and other necessary procedures.
Monitor assigned personnel to ensure compliance with established safety protocols regarding equipment and supplies.
Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information, and report any known or suspected breaches of confidentiality.Ensure that all nursing care is delivered in privacy, and that nursing staff knock before entering residents' rooms.
Perform additional duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:
To successfully fulfill this role, an individual must be capable of performing each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
Licensed Practical Nurse with a current, unencumbered state license.
Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
Able to make independent decisions when necessary.
Knowledgeable about nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to nursing care facilities.
Current CPR Certification is mandatory.Experience in Long Term Care is preferred.
