Conservation Specialist for Environmental Management

Job Overview:

The State of Idaho seeks a highly skilled Natural Resource Conservationist to join their team in supporting the agency's mission to conserve and sustain soil, water, air, plant, and animal resources.

About the Job:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with various conservation districts in Idaho, providing technical assistance on natural resource conservation plan development and implementation. The incumbent will also assist the Commission in delivering comprehensive conservation programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing resource inventories for agricultural resource planning areas
  • Determining available conservation programs for project areas and defining necessary management systems
  • Locating potential sources of funds to resolve natural resources problems
  • Developing implementation plans and progress-monitoring processes
  • Providing on-site technical assistance to owner/operator participants in implementing natural resource conservation plans
  • Reviewing participant status, recommending plan revisions, and contract modifications

Requirements:

  • A good knowledge of agriculture gained through college coursework or farm management experience
  • A good knowledge of natural resource conservation practices and resource plan development and implementation
  • A good knowledge of agronomy, biology, range, silviculture, animal management, fisheries, and/or soils and soil and water conservation principles
  • Experience developing and making public presentations, developing technical reports, and protecting confidentiality
