We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Superintendent to join our team at American States Utility Services, Inc. This is a key leadership role that requires a strong background in water and wastewater system construction, as well as excellent supervisory and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the daily operations of construction personnel, including Foremen, Operators, and Workers.
- Ensure that all safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are followed by Foremen and crew members.
- Manage and coordinate the work of subcontractors and material providers.
- Develop and maintain effective employee relations plans, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
- Develop and oversee compliance with budgets and participate in the development of same.
- Responsible for fostering Employee Development and ensuring adequate training is provided to achieve appropriate skill levels and proficiency for conducting all construction tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Eight (8) years of prior water and wastewater system construction experience.
- At least four (4) years of supervisory experience as a Foreman on utility construction projects.
- Proficient in knowledge of how to handle a trench box and the use of quick shoring.
- Strong knowledge of utility plans and specifications.
- Proficient skill with lasers, line and grade, excavation and dewatering.
- Committed to quality service.
- Responds appropriately to supervision.
- Aligns behavior with the needs, priorities, and goals of the organic construction group.
- Encourages cooperation, team spirit, and group inclusiveness.
- Has strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- When expressing information, takes into account the audience and the nature of the information.
- Proficient in operating and instructing others on how to use heavy machinery, including but not limited to dump truck, rubber tire backhoe, mini excavator, track excavator, skidsteer, loader, and asphalt roller.
- Communicates both orally and written, with local officials, company management/staff, customers, and others.
- Has experience with basic computer skills.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License issued by the state where employed.
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Working knowledge of general hand tools and power tools.
- Must take and pass Federal OSHA and/or State Mandated Safety training with annual refresher courses as required by the associated regulations for this Position. Such training will be provided by company and compliance is mandatory.
- Work in extreme weather conditions.
- Lift and carry loads up to 50lbs and push or pull up to 100lbs.
- Work in confined spaces.
- Work in areas exposed to noise and chemicals.
- Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking, hand & foot controls.

Compensation InformationThe compensation range provided is in compliance with state specific laws.
