Position Summary
Shuttlewagon, a Wabtec Company, is in search of a Mechanical Assembly Specialist. This role involves the assembly of highly engineered, custom-built mobile material handling machinery for rail-related sectors. The Specialist will utilize mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic assembly techniques, alongside welding, electrical wiring, and hitching operations using overhead cranes and jibs.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and adhere to standard work, BOMs, blueprints, routings, specifications, and other diagrams/instructions to accurately and promptly assemble parts and equipment.
- Gather necessary tools and equipment for assembly tasks.
- Manually handle materials, tools, and equipment or utilize a jib crane, performing hitching as required.
- Follow piping diagrams or other instructions to connect hydraulic/pneumatic hosing or piping with precision and timeliness.
- Uphold high-quality standards throughout the assembly process.
- Maintain productivity levels as determined by management.
- Spray paint components as necessary.
- Layout, cut, and fit parts as required for welding.
- Prepare machinery for shipping.
- Rebuild machinery and perform cleaning, repairs, disassembly, reassembly, and adjustments as needed.
Wiring Responsibilities
- Adhere to wiring diagrams/schematics to accurately connect electrical cabling.
- Execute wiring sequences for point-to-point direct or harness wiring.
- Wire mounting panels and junction boxes according to documentation/instructions.
- Create or re-wire harnesses and cables per specifications.
General Duties
- Comply with all safety and work regulations while maintaining departmental housekeeping standards.
- Fabricate small components as needed.
- Complete production and quality assurance documentation.
- Actively participate in team meetings and discussions.
- Collaborate with engineering to effectively communicate information.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives as required.
- Adhere to Quality Management System requirements.
- Participate in 5S activities.
- Possess the ability to read and comprehend procedures written in English.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: 3-5+ years in a custom build shop preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficient in reading and understanding blueprints, operating computers for data input, using hand tools, and interpreting 3D prints/schematics.
Behavioral Attributes: Strong communication skills, accountability for results, mechanical aptitude, critical thinking, and a desire to succeed.
