Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pathologist Assistant to join our team at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. As a Pathologist Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate accessioning of surgical specimens, maintaining the cleanliness of the grossing room, and assisting pathologists with frozen section and grossing procedures.

Responsibilities

Accurately accession all surgical specimens, with a focus on cassettes with tissues during grossing
Maintain the Cryostat, reagents, and supplies for the grossing room, ensuring a clean and organized environment
Assist pathologists with specialized procedures and projects as needed
Maintain orderly storage of surgical and autopsy specimens, discarding specimens as required
Assist in releasing and viewing deceased in the morgue
Perform quality control and quality assurance tasks, including record maintenance and documentation
Ensure proper disposal of medical waste and chemicals, and handle spills and clean-up

Requirements

Current active NYS Pathologist Assistant License
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience, with a minimum of two years spent working in the designated laboratory specialty as a gross prosecutor in a clinical laboratory with a medical director
Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills
