Veterinary Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team at the City of Boston Animal Care Facility. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will provide exceptional medical care to animals in our care and custody.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the shelter veterinarian in providing medical care to animals, including exams, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures.
- Participate in rounds with the veterinarian to identify animals requiring treatment or evaluation.
- Prepare and analyze in-house diagnostics, such as fecal flotation, ear/skin cytology, urinalysis, and blood smear.
- Handle a variety of animals, including wildlife, and restrain fractious patients in a humane way.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of medical supplies.
- Communicate effectively with foster volunteers, adopters, and shelter veterinarians to ensure seamless care and support.
- Work independently and as part of a team to provide exceptional animal care.
- At least two years of full-time experience working as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant.
- One year of surgical and anesthesia experience.
- Preference given to Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT) and those with shelter medicine experience.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to work in a diverse workplace setting.
- Good computer skills and ability to learn and use Chameleon software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
