About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Power Generator Technician to join our team at Integrated Power Services. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on problem solver who loves to travel and provide exceptional customer service.

Job Description

As an Electrical Power Generator Technician, you will be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining diesel and gas engine driven standby generators in the field. Your primary goal will be to help our residential, commercial, and industrial clients keep their power on.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as oil and filter changes, spark plug replacements, and coolant checks.
  • Conduct inspections of mechanical and electrical systems to identify potential issues.
  • Clean generators, including oil, fuel, and air filters, cooling systems, and external components.
  • Test generators using load banks, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and function testing.
  • Troubleshoot alternators, wiring harnesses, switches, switchgear, battery systems, and engines.
  • Diagnostics: Perform failure analysis, use multimeter tools, and other meter tools to diagnose issues with battery systems.
  • Commissioning & Start Ups: Review designs, test systems, program control panels, and network configurations.
  • Service various generator brands, including Kohler, CAT, Cummins, Generac, Deere, Onan, MTU, Volvo, Mitsubishi, Detroit Diesel, Asco, Atlas Copco, and up to 2.5 meg units.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, explaining issues and resolutions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Document completed work by generating reports.

Qualifications and Competencies

We are open to candidates without all the required skills. Our successful training program will help you develop the necessary expertise. However, you should have:

  • A technical school diploma or equivalent experience working with generators, diesel engines, electric power, relay technology, or substation technology.
  • SOME EXPERIENCE IN REPAIR OR MAINTENANCE OF GENERATORS PREFERRED; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Mechanical aptitude can be used in lieu of technical school and generator experience.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Requires 3+ years of driving experience.
  • A satisfactory driving record with the ability to obtain a DOT medical certification.
  • The ability to work with clients after hours and on-call as needed.
  • The ability to read and interpret schematics, operating manuals, and safety guidelines.
  • The ability to lift, push, pull, carry items weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • The ability to work in physically demanding conditions and inclement weather.
