Democracy International (DI) is seeking a highly skilled Gender and Marginalized Groups Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our global programs team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our projects and activities meaningfully and holistically integrate considerations particular to women, LGBTQI+ persons, gender nonconforming individuals, and other marginalized groups.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership to develop programmatic strategies that strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) and community-based actors to integrate inclusive development in our programs.
  • Ensure that marginalized groups are engaged and supported throughout all program objectives and activities.
  • Improve the equitable provision of services to vulnerable populations while also elevating their voices publicly to advocate for needed reforms.
  • Inclusively engage key stakeholders in interventions that build capacity of CSOs, government entities, private sector, and other groups.
  • Facilitate gender analysis and maintain ongoing monitoring and evaluation of gender-focused initiatives and activities.
  • Document and disseminate program successes and challenges to local stakeholders.
  • Oversee partner or consultants' technical work as applicable.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to partner organizations and entities on internet freedom, digital security, civil society, policy advocacy, independent media, and/or human rights.
  • Support partners and beneficiaries to ensure that all capacity strengthening provided exemplifies best practice in gender, other marginalized groups, and inclusion.
  • Orient staff to inclusion and equity in monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities focusing on GESI.
Requirements:
  • A Master's degree and 5 years' relevant work experience, or relevant work experience of 7 years in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • Master's in human rights, gender studies, social studies, international development, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience advising donor-supported programming on integrating considerations related to gender and marginalized groups.
  • Experience advising on this topic must include programming related to internet freedom, digital security, civil society, policy advocacy, independent media, and/or human rights.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in inclusive development, positive youth development, and gender considerations.
  • Experience with and commitment to inclusive locally led development approaches (e.g., co-creation, micro-grant making, cultivating collective action practices) and adaptive management processes.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with various stakeholders, including the USG, government representatives, other donors, and partners.
  • Experience in conducting practical research on legal frameworks, as well as gender analysis, gender audits, power analysis, and other.
  • Understanding of the value systems, traditions, and social norms and practices of different cultures is strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with a wide range of stakeholders and team members.
  • Professional fluency in English is required; knowledge of other languages preferred.
  • Excellent computer and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Reporting:
  • This position reports to the Chief of Party.
  • Direct reports may include members of the DI Global and Rapid Response Programs Team.
