Chicago, Illinois, United States Northwestern University Full time
Job Overview:

**Position Summary:**

The Department of Medical Social Sciences (MSS) is at the forefront of enhancing patient care through outcomes and effectiveness research. With robust academic collaborations across the university and medical school, we strive to foster interdisciplinary scientific partnerships aimed at improving health management, prevention, and control. Our mission includes addressing health disparities among traditionally underrepresented groups in research, and we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that promotes health and well-being for all.

**Program Insight:**

The Evaluation, Data Integration, and Technical Assistance (EDIT) Program is a pioneering initiative focused on community-based evaluation to enhance the health and well-being of sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals, particularly youth and young adults. The EDIT Program empowers community organizations to strategically design, implement, and assess culturally relevant programs for SGM youth. We employ innovative methodologies to analyze health disparities among SGM populations, utilizing a community-engaged approach to advance health equity. One significant project is the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), which investigates health disparities between sexual minority and heterosexual youth using a comprehensive dataset.

**Role Responsibilities:**

Under the guidance of the EDIT Director, the Research Project Coordinator will manage the daily operations of the YRBS project. This includes overseeing analytic tasks related to health outcome disparities, HIV-related sexual risk behaviors, and alcohol consumption among youth. The coordinator will facilitate planning sessions, mentorship opportunities, and collaborate closely with faculty members.

**Key Duties Include:**

  • Coordinating all project-related activities concerning YRBS data, including data collection from national and state sources.
  • Leading the timely preparation and submission of dissemination materials such as newsletters, reports, and publications.
  • Contributing to future research initiatives stemming from the primary project.
  • Developing and maintaining databases and data management tools to ensure the accuracy and quality of data products.
  • Collaborating with team members to design and implement research projects utilizing YRBS data.
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and other documents for dissemination to stakeholders.

**Qualifications Required:**

  • A bachelor's degree in social or health sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with 3 years of relevant research experience; or a master's degree with 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Proven supervisory or project management experience.
  • Completion of IRB CITI training prior to participant interaction, with recertification every three years.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • A master's degree in public health, statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience with large datasets or research involving pooled YRBS data.
  • Background in youth and alcohol research.
  • Experience engaging with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities.

**Benefits and Work Environment:**

Northwestern University offers competitive health care plans, retirement benefits, and professional development resources. We support flexible work arrangements and provide programs to assist with childcare and senior care needs. Our commitment to employee well-being includes comprehensive wellness programs.
