Staff Nurse I

UTHealth Houston's Cizik School of Nursing is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Nurse I to join their team of professionals. As a key member of the clinical support team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the efficient operation of the clinic or unit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist medical doctors in delivering high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and implement plans of nursing care for patients in assigned areas.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the clinic or unit by scheduling and planning staff and facilities effectively.
  • Provide patient education and counseling on pre-op and post-op care.
  • Makes decisions based on experience and training to identify emergency situations and administer CPR and/or first aid measures.
  • Exercise judgment in referring patients to agencies or healthcare professionals for additional services when necessary.
  • Coordinate upkeep of patient charts, type reports, make telephone calls, and schedule appointments for patient visits and payment collection.
  • Schedule operations at hospitals, including admissions procedures, use of operating rooms, x-rays, lab requirements, and special tests for patients.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions for new equipment and follow up on delivery, stock, and maintain necessary medical and clerical supplies for the clinic.
  • May provide direction to other clinical personnel to ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Demonstrate procedures and techniques to LVNs to ensure delivery of proper patient care.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
Requirements:
  • Current Registered Nurse Texas License required.
  • CPR certified.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school, or Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school, or diploma nurses.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
