Oncology Registered Nurse Job Description

Amergis is seeking a skilled Oncology Registered Nurse to join our team. As an Oncology Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to individuals undergoing cancer treatment.

Job Summary:

The Oncology Registered Nurse will be responsible for evaluating, planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care for patients with cancer. This will involve working in hospitals and outpatient care centers, where patients receive cancer treatments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialized oncology nursing care to patients in a hospital or clinic setting
  • Observe and assess chemotherapy patients' conditions
  • Assure patient safety and stability; report significant changes to supervisor or physician; record nursing notes on patient chart
  • Interview and observe patients' medical history and current condition; review patients' records; take vital signs and assess current condition and pain level
  • Administer chemotherapy, blood products, IV fluids, and medications
  • Validate chemotherapy doses for accuracy
  • Identify patient needs and healthcare problems; develop goals, service delivery protocols, and nursing plan of care; evaluate patient progress and modify care plans as needed
  • Record and report all information within scope and per facility protocol
  • Perform assessment of patients; evaluate symptoms and determine essential care required
  • Prepare patients for physician's examination, assist in examination and treatment of patient
  • Educate patients and families about cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options
  • Instruct individual patients and family on follow-up care, toxicity, and side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy
  • Assist in assessment of pain management
  • Perform other duties as assigned/necessary
Requirements:
  • Current RN license in state practicing
  • One (1) year of experience in oncology nursing preferred
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
