Position Overview

The Rhode Island School of Design Dining Services is currently in search of temporary Culinary Assistants to enhance our in-house dining and catering operations. Temporary Culinary Assistants play a vital role in supporting the culinary and bakery teams with various food preparation tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, washing, chopping, and preparing vegetables, executing station-specific food production, and adhering to recipes for daily menu items. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen is crucial, as is contributing to a collaborative team environment with a strong focus on customer service and culinary presentation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and finalize basic kitchen and catering items according to specified standards. This includes washing, peeling, cutting, and properly storing ingredients.
  • Ensure all ingredients are gathered, cleaned, and ready for cooking, assisting cooks with simple batch recipes under supervision.
  • Set up and dismantle various service areas, including bakery, pizza, deli, salad, and serving lines.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including temperature control, personal hygiene, and sanitation practices.
  • Assist in organizing food supplies through stocking, participating in inventory checks, and maintaining cleanliness in work and storage areas.
Qualifications:
  • Rhode Island sanitation/ServSafe certification is required or must be obtained during the orientation period.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in food service, with the skills needed to perform cleaning and sanitizing tasks effectively.

Our dining services operate seven days a week, offering both full-time and part-time positions. Specific schedules will be discussed with candidates during the hiring process.

All dining and catering personnel are considered essential staff and are expected to report to work even during school closures.
