Position Overview

Northern Impact, a national multidisciplinary design firm, is in search of a skilled and cooperative Structural Engineer to enhance their team. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in analysis and design, coupled with strong programming capabilities. Responsibilities will encompass reviewing relevant codes, conducting structural analysis and calculations, creating construction drawings and details, compiling project specifications, examining shop drawings, and engaging in construction administration tasks.

This innovative studio is dedicated to achieving clients' sustainability objectives while challenging industry norms. They strive to cultivate expertise and research that transcends net zero energy, aiming for net positive energy and reductions in embodied carbon through their involvement in the SE2050 challenge. As the demand for sustainable environments escalates, so does the emphasis on high-performance buildings, supported by robust data that can be shared with clients and design teams.

Engineers within this firm are encouraged to collaborate across various market sectors, enhancing their technical skills in designing diverse building types. Project types include laboratories, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, concert venues, corporate offices, museums, and various local, state, and federal government structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a structural project engineer, working closely with both design and construction teams.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Adapt to various personalities and management styles within the team.
  • Collaborate effectively in a team environment to devise optimal solutions for each project.
  • Exhibit proactivity and possess excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Conduct structural analysis, design, and detailing for various building framing and foundation systems across multiple material types.
  • Create construction drawings and detailed specifications.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals, providing support during the construction administration phase.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to address structural engineering requirements.
  • Partner with architectural teams to assess embodied carbon, establish realistic reduction targets, and strategize to achieve them.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in designing and analyzing steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures for healthcare, corporate, commercial, and educational projects.
  • Professional licensure or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status leading to licensure.
  • Familiarity with building codes, design and construction standards, and efficient construction techniques for various materials.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills suitable for a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly motivated and proactive, willing to embrace new challenges.
  • Experience with various structural analysis software and proficiency in Revit is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A passion for delivering high-quality design solutions.
